V-carved and 3D-routed wood signs in walnut, white oak, cherry, maple, and reclaimed hardwoods — family-name signs, address plaques, business signage, cabin and lake-house names, wedding signs, and memorial pieces. Every sign is routed on a CNC and finished by hand.
CNC wood signs look like they were carved by hand but with the precision of a laser — clean V-grooves, deep 3D relief, perfect repeatable letterforms in any font. Our makers run ShopBots, Avid CNCs, and large-format Laguna routers on solid hardwood up to 8 feet long.
Standard finishes: hand-rubbed oil for indoor pieces, marine-grade spar urethane for porch and entry signs, and epoxy-filled inlays for high-contrast letter work. Most signs ship in 2-4 weeks; rush is available on most makers for an extra fee.
Walnut is the workhorse for high-end signs — dark chocolate grain, takes V-carve cleanly, gets richer with age. White oak handles outdoor exposure better than any other domestic hardwood (it's what they build wine barrels and shipyards out of) — sealed white oak signs last 15+ years outside. Cherry is gorgeous for indoor pieces and gets a deeper red patina with sunlight. Maple is the cheapest hardwood that still looks premium and is perfect for stained or painted signs.
If you want reclaimed wood (barn-board, salvaged lumber with natural patina), most makers source regionally and can quote with photos before they cut. Reclaimed adds character and story but limits the size — you're working with what the salvage yard has on the truck.
V-carving cuts the letter or graphic at a 60- or 90-degree angle so the deepest point is at the centerline — it's the classic 'carved' wood-sign look you've seen on cabin and ranch signs your whole life. 3D relief uses multiple tool passes to actually carve the design out of the surface (think topographic maps or sculpted faces) — more expensive but lets the wood become a sculpture.
Epoxy inlay is the modern upgrade: V-carve the design deep, then fill the channel with pigmented epoxy (black, white, gold leaf, glow-in-the-dark, color-matched to your branding), sand flush, and finish. The result is a perfectly flat surface where the design pops in another color — high-contrast at any viewing distance. Adds 1-2 weeks to lead time and ~30% to cost but transforms the piece.
